The Opportunity

We are currently looking for Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists to join our multidisciplinary classroom teams full-time in a truly unique allied health role. At Broadmeadows SDS, we have classes of five to seven students grouped by their age, and we currently have vacancies across multiple age groups.

Our primary years (ages 5 - 12) include classes focusing on foundational skills and knowledge, with hands-on learning opportunities created in collaboration between our teachers and allied health professionals.

The secondary years (ages 13 - 18) include classes that focus on navigating the world as a young adult, and after. We provide English, Reading, Writing, Maths, and Health and Physical Education.

All of our classrooms have a dedicated teacher and teacher assistant, as well as Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech Pathologists who all work together to create lesson plans that will help students with their individual and group goals and milestones. As our Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist, you will assess students and provide recommendations and suggestions on interactive class plans that incorporate Occupational and Speech Therapy exercises into learning.

At Broadmeadows Special Development School, our collaborative and multidisciplinary approach sets us apart and makes this a unique opportunity for you. Your caseload will be small, and you will spend a lot of your time coming up with unique and engaging ways to incorporate your therapies into class activities.

Your classroom team will communicate with parents through daily ‘communication journals’, weekly photo books showcasing what students have been doing, and weekly phone call updates.

Across our school environment, you will find opportunities for collaboration with allied health professionals and educators as you are supported from all sides. We provide any necessary support to help you do your job as effectively as possible, including only having meetings necessary - no weekly whole staff meetings here! You will find a friendly environment where all of our team can lean on each other for support, and have regular social catch-ups as well.
